Claire has been teaching in the East Riding of Yorkshire for the past 13 years. She has been part of the Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher at Withernsea Primary School for the last 7 years. This role includes overseeing the behaviour of Key Stage 2 pupils, assisting the SENCO with diagnosing educational needs, and mentoring initial teacher training students and newly qualified teachers.
Claire has mentored at Withernsea Primary for the past 9 years. She has worked alongside colleagues from several different institutions including Wolds Teaching Alliance, Hull University, York St John’s University, Bishop Burton College and Riding Forward Teaching School Alliance. As well as mentoring the students, she has also coached other class teachers in the school in their mentoring skills for when they have students on placement.
Claire has also coached many experienced teachers participating in the Leading from the Middle course, developing supportive and sensitive relationships as well as contributing to the positive and sustained improvements in all of the projects undertaken. She has also completed Leadership Pathways and attended the Leadership Development Centre.
In Claire’s role as an SLE for ITT, she is able to support any primary trainee teachers or Newly Qualified Teachers in any area, or assist with providing training for any new mentors in schools.
