Headteacher of Hook CE Primary School in the East Riding of Yorkshire for twenty years. The school is recognised nationally as an outstanding and innovative. Famous for its unique curriculum design, assessment procedures and a no timetable approach to planning, requests for visits to the school are received on a regular basis. The flexibility the system affords, along with the creative and very imaginative approach to Learning and Teaching ensures the best possible learning environment and opportunities for every pupil.
Passionate about the curriculum offered to children and young people, Janet is frequently asked to talk about the work of the school and has presented to a variety of audiences nationally and internationally. These include: Individual schools, Ofsted conferences, QCDA conferences, LA Headteacher conferences, NCSL courses, British International School conferences in Spain, Ibiza and Majorca, the Institute of Education London, Education Fringe meeting at the Labour Party Conference and Initial Teacher Training providers. She worked closely with Sir Jim Rose on a Review of the Primary Curriculum and the curriculum writing groups with QCDA.
