Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) is an NCTL funded programme, available to qualified, teachers who would either like to develop their language skills in an additional language to deliver high quality, engaging lessons in this shortage subject or to support teachers return to or transitioning over to teaching MFL. The focus of the training is to increase subject knowledge and subject specific pedagogy across all topic areas and key stages to enable non-specialist teachers to teach an additional language. The training provided is free to participant schools and is a great CPD option for those currently teaching or transitioning to teaching MFL or wishing to pick up new languages to help with the development of Ebacc delivery.
Participants who complete TSST will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Teaching School as well as formal CPD certification from the University of Hull. Further reflective writing can lead into Masters credits with the University of Hull, please contact us for further information on this.
To be eligible, candidates should meet one or more of the following criteria:
The training is free for Secondary colleagues, being subsidised by the DfE and will take place at South Hunsley School, led by a dedicated School Improvement Leader for MFL. This is our third year of offering the TSST programme, upskilling teachers to enable them to deliver part or all of the subject up to KS4.
The programme is delivered through face-to-face sessions during the academic year 2017 – 2018 with guided reading and reflection between these. Each session is focused on subject knowledge and pedagogy and gives participants access to a range of practical resources that they can use in the classroom.
