Alastair is an inspirational Assistant Headteacher and Area Improvement Leader of Science at Cottingham High School. He is fascinated by pedagogy and an advocate of quality first teaching. Since joining Cottingham in 2016 he has empowered his team to become more effective practitioners who are delivering interesting subject content using innovative and engaging methods.
Alastair has experience working in schools in Sheffield & Leeds prior to Cottingham, demonstrating strong subject leadership under differing circumstances.
Alastair also leads on Teaching, Learning and Assessment. In this role he is responsible for the development of Teaching and Learning across the school, comprising the coordination of whole school monitoring activities, planning and delivering the CPD programme, and championing best practice across the school. He also uses his experience to manage and support middle leaders, Lead Practitioners and Lead Coaches. Alastair’s leadership and direction was instrumental in helping Cottingham High progress to “Good” in May 2017.
